Rays of Sunshine has captured the imagination and the hearts of Bacta members. With three big fundraising opportunities fast approaching, beginning with May’s Golf Day, Charitable Trust Chairman John Bollom has launched Target £1m.
Bacta Charitable Trust (BCT) Chairman John Bollom has raised the fundraising bar setting out the BCT aim of passing the highly symbolic £1m target on behalf of children’s charity Rays of Sunshine (RoS).
The Bacta/RoS partnership, which was launched in 2013 has generated circa £900,000 for the charity which grants magical wishes to seriously ill children, creating precious moments of happiness and lasting memories for families during the most challenging times.
Target £1m has been announced ahead of three key industry fundraising events taking place in May and June. The 2026 Bacta Golf Day which is being held May 19th at the prestigious Moor Park is followed by the annual Park Avenue Open Day (June 3rd) and the Bacta Charitable Trust Summer Ball which is taking place at the world famous Claridge’s Hotel on June 12th.
“This is a significant target but one that I am confident Bacta and its members will achieve before the industry meets at January’s EAG Expo ’27” stated John Bollom. “Attention now switches to the Bacta Golf Day which has been so expertly organised by Steve Hawkins for over two decades.”
Looking ahead to May’s event, which is recognised as being the industry’s flagship golf day, Steve Hawkins said: “Since the first Golf Day in 2002, we have been able to raise in excess of £200,000 for the Bacta Charitable Trust. In recent years each Golf Day has generated £10,000 and I am hopeful that we can continue that in May.”
Thanking supporters of the event and outlining the opportunities for the industry to join the celebration he added: “The first event was kindly sponsored by Terry Farr’s Cosmic Video, who put up a small marquee and exhibited some of their Merit Megatouch machines. Sound Leisure, Essex Leisure and Electrocoin have sponsored something each year and I would like to thank everyone who has been part of the journey for their fantastic support.
“In the past we have had up to four fruit machines to auction and we are seeking donations of major prizes for this year. We also have hole and prize sponsorship opportunities starting at £200. Team spaces are available, and ladies are warmly invited to join our ladies’ team. Guests are welcome to join us for the evening meal, which starts at 6pm.”
