Buzz Bingo in Sunderland plans 900-panel solar installation

Buzz Bingo in Sunderland has submitted plans to install more than 900 solar panels on the roof of its Pallion venue as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs.

An application lodged with Sunderland City Council by renewable energy firm Clearvolt seeks permission for a large rooftop solar array at the bingo hall off Pallion New Road, near the Queen Alexandra Bridge roundabout.

Planning documents show the proposed installation would cover almost the entire roof of the building. The panels would not be placed within one metre of the roof edge and would not extend more than one metre above the highest part of the roof.

If approved, the scheme would represent one of the larger commercial solar installations proposed in the city in recent months.

The application reflects a broader trend across Sunderland and South Tyneside, where organisations including schools, factories, leisure facilities and healthcare buildings are increasingly turning to solar power to cut emissions and lower operating costs.
