The team at AGC operator Game Nation has put in the hard yards to raise vital funds for its adopted CHIPS Charity. Through a combination of in-venue customer-centric events, sponsored runs, walks, and table tennis marathons the company has raised £30,000 in less than 12-months transforming the lives of three young people.
Operations Director Eric Howell is the latest member of the Game Nation team to go the extra mile in aid of the CHIPS charity which funds bespoke powered wheelchairs for youngsters who the National Health Service is not able to support.
Eric took to the trails at the Northumberland beauty spot of Kielder completing 27.8 miles in just over 9 hours. With all proceeds going to CHIPS Eric’s endeavours helped take the total raised by the company to £30,000 a sum which will transform the lives of three youngsters and their families.
Explaining how he combined a lifestyle shift with a charity initiative he said: “I’ve been walking regularly for some time as both a hobby and as part of my weight loss programme. It’s been quite a journey from struggling to complete three miles of continuous walking to now where I can go much greater distances.
“As part of the challenge, I wanted to be able say this is the furthest I’ve ever walked. I completed a 25 mile walk 12 months ago and appreciated how tough that was, so I just wanted to say I’d walked a marathon and added in a small detour for good measure!”
Confirming how CHIPS has become embedded in the Game Nation culture he added: “Everyone who has attended a CHIPS presentation where a youngster receives their chair will understand how special that moment is when you see how happy they are and what a difference it will make to their lives. The pictures that we then share within the Game Nation business makes us all hugely proud that we are doing something tangible and making a difference to someone’s life, one chair at a time.”
CEO Mark Jepp who launched the partnership with CHIPS last year reflected: “In less than 12-months and thanks to the generosity of our customers and the commitment of our fantastic venue teams, we’ve blown our original target out of the water raising a magnificent £30,000.
“Every pound that we have raised reflects the strong sense of community that sits at the heart of the business, as well as a shared commitment to make a difference. £30,000 buys three chairs and absolutely transforms the life not just of the individual but also that of his/her siblings and the extended family. CHIPS is on course to present its 800th chair during 2026 and I am extremely proud that Game Nation has contributed to this wonderful story of compassion.”
