Rays of Sunshine was delighted to receive a generous donation of more than £43,000 from its friends at Whitehouse Leisure, following on from their year-long capybara plush fundraiser.
Since Spring 2025, 50p from the sale of every Eco Earth Capybara Plush toy has been donated to Rays of Sunshine, to help grant even more magical wishes to seriously and terminally ill children and young people.
The Eco Earth capybara plush toys are made using 100% verified recycled materials, such as plastic bottles and other disposable plastics to help keep them out of our oceans and landfills. The packaging hang-tags that detail the fundraising initiative with Rays of Sunshine were also made using recycled paper and printed in biodegradable inks.
A cheque presentation was held at EAG 2026, where representatives from Rays of Sunshine accepted the generous donation of £43,632.
The money raised from the capybara initiative will help Rays of Sunshine grant even more magical wishes to seriously and terminally ill children in the UK, and provide ongoing support to families via their Sunshine in Hospitals programme and Wish Community Events.
Thanks to the generous fundraiser, this brings the total amount raised by the Bacta Charitable Trust for Rays of Sunshine to well over £850,000 during its time as one of the members’ chosen charities.
Nicola Aquila, Interim Head of Fundraising at Rays of Sunshine, said: “We’re delighted that our partnership with Whitehouse Leisure and the Bacta Charitable Trust has continued to raise so much money for magical wishes in a way that really speaks to the young people we support. They absolutely love their capybaras!
“The Eco Earth capybara range has been such a fun initiative to be involved in again and the £40,000 raised will go a huge way towards brightening the lives of even more seriously and terminally ill children and young people.”
