Bacta has announced a 100-day evidence-led campaign in preparation for the autumn Budget and is calling on members across the land-based industry to help build a compelling case for a progressive tax framework. Drawing on industry research, economic modelling and real-world business experience, the association aims to demonstrate the sector’s contribution to economic growth, employment and the communities it serves.
Bacta has set out a campaign plan to make the sector’s case to Government over the next 100 days, as the trade association prepares for what is expected to be a mid-October deadline for submissions ahead of a likely November Budget.
Bacta President Joseph Cullis described the association as being on a “campaign footing”, confirming that members will be asked to play a full and active role in helping present a powerful case to the Treasury, highlighting the benefits of establishing a progressive tax framework that enables our businesses to be competitive and, in the process, contribute to the economic growth agenda.
Providing insight to what the coming months will look like, Joseph Cullis said: “We are planning for a number of different fiscal and political scenarios, including the possibility of further instability at the top of Government. If the political environment deteriorates further, November could become an even more difficult fiscal event for business, with the Treasury under pressure to extract additional revenue rather than ease the tax burden.”
He added: “That is why Bacta is moving early. We have just over 100 days to make the strongest possible evidence-led case for our members and for the communities they support. The valuable lessons that we learned from last year’s successful budget submission was the central importance of presenting empirical evidence based on the lived experience of Bacta member businesses. Robust data that illustrates our arguments enhances the chances of securing a positive outcome. We will be presenting industry-wide research, case studies and economic modelling provided by members and supported by expert analysis.”
“Bacta’s unique strength is the relationship it enjoys with its members throughout the ecosystem of games creators, suppliers and operators both inland and at the coast. Those connections and the insights they provide will underpin our budget submission and drive our broader political engagement at this crucial time.”
Bacta will be engaging members throughout the summer to gather evidence, case studies and economic data to support its submission. The association will also continue direct engagement with MPs, officials and Treasury stakeholders as part of a wider campaign to ensure the sector’s voice is heard ahead of the autumn fiscal event.
