Bristol Council planning officers have recommended councillors refuse permission for Club 3000 Bingo to construct a new £13m hall on Hartcliffe Way, despite the submission receiving more than 500 letters of support from local residents.
Plans to build a 2,000-capacity hall on the brownfield site were lodged after Club 3000 was forced to close its existing venue in Broadwalk Shopping Centre ahead of redevelopment, however officers have now taken issue with the new location.
“Planning officers have raised concerns that the site could be needed for future housing as part of the council’s Local Plan and say leisure developments of this scale should be located closer to the city centre rather than on Bristol’s outskirts,” reported Bristol 24/7.
Despite this, Filwood councillors Rob Logan and Lisa Durston said “bingo has a long and proud history in south Bristol. Residents have been looking forward to their local club transferring to the new site from the old Broadwalk location.”
“This exciting planning application should be approved without delay.”
Club 3000 founder Brian Fraser added “it’s really frustrating that council officers feel they cannot support the application.”
“It’s all now in the hands of the planning committee members – they can overrule council officers, and we certainly hope they do.”
