New EU safety rules for VR and arcade equipment have come into force, with companies supplying the market encouraged to review their existing compliance measures as part of the updates to the CE certification.
The EN IEC 62368-1:2026+A11:2026 standard was officially rolled out as of 21 July to cover arcade machines, VR experience cabins and motion-based interactive attractions, and all newly marketed equipment must comply.
“Manufacturers will need to ensure products undergo the appropriate conformity assessment, supported by updated technical documentation and CE marking where required,” reported the Amusement Network.
“The revised requirements also introduce additional considerations covering areas such as thermal protection, high-brightness LED components and the handling of locally stored biometric data in multi-user immersive attractions.”
The major impact for suppliers is expected to be in terms of “certification and product launch timescales,” with additional testing and documentation expected.
“The updated rules are particularly relevant for manufacturers of VR attractions, immersive entertainment systems and modern arcade equipment, but they will also affect distributors and operators purchasing new machines, as compliance will become an essential part of the procurement process.”
While the changes are primarily aimed at manufacturers and importers, operators are being advised to seek assurances that new equipment has been certified to the latest standard before placing orders.
