Prohibitionist Dawn Butler denies intention to run for Mayor of London

Labour MP and anti-AGC campaigner Dawn Butler has denied rumours she will run for Mayor of London against incumbent Sir Sadiq Khan, following reports she was launching a campaign by PoliticsJoe.

The representative for Brent East has previously expressed her intention to occupy City Hall and won the backing of both GMB Unions, but noted that until Khan decides to step down, she will not put her name forward in competition.

“While I have always said that being Mayor of London would be the honour of my life, and I have never hidden my desire to run for Mayor of London one day, it is simply the case that there is no vacancy at present,” said Butler. “If there is a vacancy one day, I will absolutely be putting my name forward.”

“I have big plans and ambitions if one day I am lucky enough to be chosen by Londoners to represent them as mayor. In the meantime, I continue my work proudly representing the people of Brent East in Parliament.”
