It was an ‘Oh Happy Day’ at Treasure Cove Amusements on Tuesday when news broke of a council U-turn on a decision to halt the Blackpool Illuminations before Bispham after 1 November.
Treasure Cove was in a state of despair when the original proposal was made to discontinue this year’s display beyond Red Bank Road into Bispham.
And they were acutely aware of how devastating the decision would be for them and the town’s entire business community. “We know just how important the Illuminations are to Bispham’s businesses, residents and visitors. Every year they bring families to our end of the promenade, supporting local arcades, cafés, shops and other independent businesses.”
The innovative amusements arcade responded calling on its customers to help them persuade the council to revisit the decision. They set up a petition at the venue for people to sign asking locals to join the campaign and “pop into Treasure Cove during opening hours. It only takes a minute, and every signature helps show how important the Illuminations are to local residents, visitors and businesses.”
And pop in they did. By Tuesday this week, news broke that the council had listened and quickly did a U-turn to deliver the Illuminations to Bispham all the way through to January.
And the joy and relief at Treasure Cove was palpable.
“We DID it!” they posted immediately. “After days of support from residents, visitors and local businesses, we’ve got the news we were all hoping for…
“Blackpool Council has made a U-turn and the Illuminations in Bispham will continue beyond 1st November!”
And they were quick to express their thanks to customers and their fellow businesses.
“From the thousands of people who viewed and shared posts, to everyone who commented, messaged, signed the petition and helped spread the word… thank you.
“This shows what can happen when a community stands together for something it truly cares about.
“We also want to thank Blackpool Council for listening to the concerns that were raised and reconsidering the decision.
“Here’s to another fantastic Illuminations season… and keeping Bispham shining!”
