Westminster Council awards Safe Haven status to Game Nation venues

Westminster Council has awarded Safe Haven status to three Game Nation venues in Chinatown, Soho, and Victoria. Working in partnership with the local authority, the venues will provide practical assistance, phone charging, and a supportive environment to help women and vulnerable individuals.

Game Nation has underscored its status as a key community asset on the high street by achieving Safe Haven accreditation working in partnership with London’s Westminster Council.

The accreditation applies to the Game Nation venues in China Town, Soho and Victoria.

Safe Havens were created to provide practical help to women with their onward journeys. Assistance can range from simply providing a friendly face and reassurance, the ability to charge phones, and calling taxis through to contacting emergency services.

The basic criteria for a Safe Haven include the presence of DBS cleared trained staff and the relevant public liability insurance.

Game Nation HR Director Julie Redfern said: “We are incredibly proud to announce that three of our Game Nation venues, Victoria, China Town and Soho have achieved Safe Haven accreditation.

“Safe Havens are a compassionate and progressive initiative that provide a safe, welcoming and supportive place for women and vulnerable individuals who may feel insecure or who may need a little help while out in the city.

“Game Nation venues are very much a part of the communities in which we operate, and we believe that we have a responsibility to help make those communities safer and more welcoming.”

She added: “We are extremely proud of our teams for embracing the Safe Haven training and understanding the important role they can play.

“If being a Safe Haven helps even one person feel safer, supported and less vulnerable, then it is something that’s truly worthwhile.

“On behalf of the Game Nation team I would like to express sincere thanks to everyone involved at Westminster City Council for working in partnership with us to help make the City of Westminster, which attracts 25million visitors a year, a safer place for everyone.”

Safe Havens are identified using venue door/window stickers. Partners, including the City of London Police and The Metropolitan Police Service are aware of Safe Havens and provide support during their operational hours.
