Adventure Island carried out a planned emergency exercise while the park was closed to the public recently, with more than 200 people involved in a terrorist attack drill to test the park’s emergency planning procedures.
The exercise was conducted in collaboration with Essex Police, emergency services and firearms training teams, with BALPPA CEO Paul Kelly also in attendance to support the industry’s ongoing focus on safety and best practice.
“We opened the west side of the park as if it were a normal operating day, with rides running and members of the team acting as guests to help simulate real-life conditions,” said a spokesperson. “The exercise was designed to be as realistic as possible, bringing the whole team together to test our procedures and response in a live environment.”
“No one had prior knowledge of the scenario, it was a highly realistic terrorist attack simulation, and the team acted superbly under intense pressure and were praised by the experts and attending emergency service partners.”
