Bingo Association AGM brings sector together for a “packed and thought-provoking day”

The Bingo Association held its annual general meeting in London on 7 May, bringing representatives from across the UK industry together with key decision-makers and political analysts to provide a day of “valuable discussion and networking.”

The Bingo Association’s latest AGM saw representatives from across the UK sector making their way to Hallam Conference Centre in London on 7 May for a day of “valuable discussion and networking.”

Led by outgoing CEO Miles Baron, the event included contributions from DCMS head of gambling policy Matthew Phillips, GamCom acting CEO Sarah Gardner, Christopher Sanger and Peter Arnold (EY), Stephen Lacey (The Outsiders), Leon Emirali (Nostrada AI) and The Times’ chief political correspondent Aubrey Allegretti.

“This week’s Bingo Association AGM brought the sector together for a packed and thought-provoking day of discussion, insight and industry conversation,” said the association.

“Alongside the formal AGMs for Meeron, the NBGA and The Bingo Association, the wider programme covered many of the key issues currently shaping the sector, including regulation, customer analysis, economics, AI, strategy and politics.”

The day also marked the 13th and final AGM to be led by Baron, who introduced incoming CEO Nicole Garrett as part of the ongoing leadership transition within the association.

“While Miles still has time left with the BA (and there will be more formal opportunities to recognise his enormous contribution in due course), speakers throughout the day, including a recorded message from the BA’s Chairman Andy Crump, took the opportunity to acknowledge his leadership over the last 13 years and to wish him well for the future.”

“Most importantly, though, the AGM once again demonstrated the strength of the bingo sector itself, bringing together operators, suppliers and colleagues from across the industry for a day of valuable discussion and networking.”

Gardner hails Baron’s legacy

The Gambling Commission’s Acting CEO Sarah Gardner had some warm words for the outgoing Bingo Association chief Miles Baron who was marking his last AGM at the trade body’s helm.

For a regulator that specialises in snarly language – and there was plenty of that in her speech to the hall – Gardner’s words to Miles Baron were  genuine, sincere and kind.

She said: “I’m really pleased to be here for what I can’t believe is Miles’ last AGM as Chief Exec of The Bingo Association. I remember when Miles was appointed as CEO of The Bingo Association. I recall thinking then that he brought a breath of fresh air and new perspectives to some long running debates. His contributions have remained hugely valuable throughout his tenure and I would like to thank him for that…he has always been a strong advocate for his members. I remember back as the pandemic first struck and the lockdowns began to bite, Miles was tireless in representing the sector with Government and the Commission.

He brought energy and ideas and a desire to roll up his sleeves and work with others on solutions. I think that approach defines Miles and I know it has been one that we at the Commission have always appreciated.

He has always sought to work with others to come up with solutions rather than against them.

So today, I wanted to put on record the thanks of myself and the Gambling Commission for Miles’ contribution over the years: how he has worked with us in a spirit of collaboration and for the tireless efforts he has made in representing the bingo sector. Thank you Miles and good luck to you in what comes next.”
