Brighton Palace Pier to host Big City Sleepout

Brighton Palace Pier is to play host to dozens of volunteers sleeping outdoors on the night of 1 December, as part of the Big City Sleepout, raising money for local homeless charity The Clock Tower Sanctuary.

Described by CTS as its “biggest fundraising event of the year,” the sleepout will see local residents spend the night on the attraction’s boardwalk to raise both funds and awareness for the challenges facing young homeless people.

“Last year’s sleepout raised more than £44,000 for the Clock Tower Sanctuary, helping to provide hot meals, food parcels, clean clothing, showers, washing machines, tumble dryers, one-to-one support, daily groups and activities, and a warm, welcoming space for young 16 to 25 year olds who are homeless in Brighton and Hove,” said a CTS spokesperson.

“This event offers a tiny glimpse into the challenges young people face when sleeping rough (currently about 15 percent of our clients). It’s going to be a challenge; the weather might be bad and it will be very cold, but we will help you prepare everything you need to make it through the night.”

Those wishing to take part can register via the Clock Tower Sanctuary website, with each participant required to commit to a fundraising pledge of at least £304.
