Clacton Pier sees good prospects for “staycation boost” over summer season

Clacton Pier is anticipating a “staycation boost” this summer, despite UK families being hit hard with rising costs and issues with foreign travel.

Predicting a marked uplift, GM Harry Peek said the attraction has already noticed “a definite drive for value,” as tourists make the most of the destinations on their doorstep.

“There is a definite drive for value while people make the most of their precious leisure time and breaks available to them,” said Peek. “There is a general feeling within the industry, and with others in our sector in Tendring, that it could well provide us with a welcome and much-needed boost.”

“We saw it for a couple of years after the pandemic and now we are hoping the staycation feeling is firmly back again. We already offer good value for money and give families what they are looking for so they can make the very most of days out.”

Peek acknowledged the importance of appealing to families over the Easter bank holiday, with the event often proving a reliable bellwether of the season to come.

“We and our colleagues in this industry are well aware of the importance of that and have put measures in place to attract visitors to their venues.

“With some decent weather we are keeping fingers crossed for a bumper Easter break and hope that it continues into the main season and beyond.”

The pier’s Easter Extravaganza got underway at the weekend and got off to a steady and promising start.

The fun continues through until April 12 with the Giant Easter Bunny in Discovery Bay, a daily golden egg hunt to win an annual rides pass worth £60, and free live music at the weekends.

The highlight will be the first free fireworks display of nine taking place this year with the pyrotechnics going off around 9pm, depending on daylight, on Sunday April 5.
