The latest consumer survey from the National Coastal Tourism Academy has found those undertaking trips to the seaside in 2025 were “very positive” about the experience, with 97 percent of respondents expressing satisfaction.
Conducted between December 2025 and January 2026, the study saw 88 percent rating value for money as good or excellent, while 80 percent of open-text comments expressed positive views about the English Coast as a holiday destination.
“66 percent of respondents had visited the coast in the last year, 15 percent last visited in 2024, 18.2 percent visited in 2023 or earlier and 1.2 percent have never visited the coast,” states the report.
“Areas visited covered all parts of the English coast, with Yorkshire, Norfolk, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall being the top destinations visited. The majority of visitors have been to that area before, only 15 percent were discovering somewhere completely new.”
The figures show a considerable increase in the number of people keen to visit the UK coast this year, up nine percentage points to 74 percent, while 43 percent will consider a day trip to the coast.
“Over half of visitors (51 percent) would like to see more history and heritage experiences at the coast and 50 percent would like to see more places open in the winter months.”
“Almost two-thirds are likely to consider a visit to a traditional seaside resort (such as Blackpool, Bournemouth, Scarborough etc) in the next year or two – 32 percent very likely, 31 percent somewhat likely and only 17 percent unlikely.”
