A volunteer-run children’s charity based in Grimsby has become the latest organisation to receive support from the Bacta Charitable Trust. The Sunflowers Children’s Action Group, which creates precious memories for children facing sometimes life-limiting medical challenges, was nominated by constituency MP Melanie Onn, the presentation was made by the Gambling Minister Baroness Twycross and the event hosted by Bacta member Bronson Taylor at his King Pin Amusements venue.
The Gambling Minister, Baroness Twycross, took time out of a busy schedule which saw her unveil a new £48 million package to support heritage sites across the country, to present a Bacta Charitable Trust cheque for £2,000 to The Sunflowers Children’s Action Group.
The Grimsby-based volunteer-run charity that creates inclusive events and lasting memories for children with life-threatening conditions, was nominated by Labour MP Melanie Onn who has represented the new constituency of Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes since 2024. She previously served as MP for Great Grimsby from 2015 to 2019, was Deputy Leader of the House of Commons 2015 to 2016 and a Shadow Minister for Housing 2017 to 2019.
Bacta Charitable Trust Chairman John Bollom who attended the presentation made at King Pin Amusements the Cleethorpes based venue owned by Bacta member Bronson Taylor, said: “This was another example of the Bacta Charitable Trust supporting community organisations in towns and cities throughout the country.
“Sunflowers Children’s Action Group is a volunteer run organisation that undertakes invaluable work helping those most at need. Its primary objective is to make a difference by creating precious memories for children facing medical challenges some of which will lead to shortened lives.
“The cost-of-living crisis continues to have a profound impact on the income streams received by the third sector which makes the work of the Bacta Charitable Trust even more important.”
He added: “I’m hugely grateful to the Minister for making the presentation on behalf of Bacta and for taking the opportunity to meet with Bacta member Bronson Taylor ahead of the summer season.”
