The sale of Enterprise Amusements in Paignton marks the end of a 20-year era, as owner Ryan Davies reflects on family legacy and future business growth.
Enterprise Amusements in Paignton has been sold, marking the end of the building’s use as a family entertainment centre (FEC) after two decades of operation.
For owner Ryan Davies, the handover of the site brings to a close a journey that began two decades ago.
“Twenty years ago, we sold our holiday parks in Somerset and moved to Paignton, where we bought three amusement arcades,” commented Davies. “Today marks the end of this building being used as an FEC, as we hand the keys over to its new owner.”
The moment is a deeply personal one for Davies, who credits his late father – a holiday park operator – with helping to establish the business and shape its long-term success.
“It’s a bittersweet moment,” he explained. “My dear father helped me so much in buying the business, not only financially, but through the business knowledge he passed on to me from a very early age. From bottling up in the clubhouse to working the kids’ counter in the arcade at our park, those lessons stayed with me and shaped everything I’ve done since.”
Reflecting on the emotional weight of the decision, he added: “Letting this go feels like losing another part of my dad, but the timing is right.”
While the era of Enterprise Amusements as an FEC has ended, the sale represents a transition rather than a full stop. The proceeds will be reinvested into Teddy Mountain, a wholesale supplier specialising in the “build your own bear” sector.
“The proceeds will be used to support the growth of Teddy Mountain, and that gives this moment real purpose,” Davies said.
He concluded by looking both forward and back: “I wish the new owner every success, and to you, Dad: I love you and I miss you.”
