Reform UK leader Nigel Farage made an unexpected appearance at Admiral’s AGC in Bognor Regis on 30 April, with staff ready to receive the politician, a guest appearance Admiral has become accustomed to due to its ongoing programme of cross-party engagement, designed to give elected representatives a first-hand look at the sector’s contribution to the high street.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage – the man tipped to be Prime Minister at the next General Election – made an unannounced appearance at Admiral’s venue in Bognor Regis on 30 April, during a visit to the town’s high street as part of the campaign trail for last month’s local council polls.
The controversial politician was invited into the venue by a member of the public and greeted by supervisor Lauren Sales, who used the opportunity to state the case for the AGC sector’s contribution to local town centres.
“Farage spent some time inside the venue, chatting with customers and colleagues before pausing to take photographs with the team and customers,” said a spokesperson.
“It was a moment that underlined something the industry has long known: a well-run, well-presented AGC on a busy high street is an asset to its community – a lively, sociable environment that draws people in and keeps them engaged.”
While the visit by Farage was a surprise to the AGC, it was probably no surprise to the Reform UK leader – he has been a strong advocate of the industry through his constituency in Clacton where he has made several visits to the pier and other industry venues.
For Admiral, the Farage walk-in was another addition to the company’s political roll-call having welcomed a number of local MPs and Ministers into venues across the country over the past 24 months, including Gambling Minister Baroness Twycross and MP Andrew Rosindell, as well as representatives from the Gambling Commission.
“These visits form part of an ongoing programme of cross-party engagement, designed to give elected representatives a first-hand look at the work we do – as a responsible operator, a valued local employer, and a thriving high street business.”
It added: “The visit created plenty of excitement in the venue, and it was a great reminder as to why the high street still matters. For Lauren and the team in Bognor Regis, it was a proud Admiral moment – and a perfect example of the service excellence that runs through everything we do as we welcome visitors from all walks of life.”
