Showmen’s Guild launches landmark TV campaign to promote Easter fairs

The Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain has commissioned its first primetime TV advertising campaign to promote the 160-plus fairs taking place across the country this Easter, with an accompanying webpage giving visitors all the information needed to find their local event. It’s time to put on a show.

The Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain has commissioned its first TV advertising campaign in order to promote the 160-plus fairs taking place across the country this Easter, with the adverts going live in primetime spots across ITV this week.

First approved at the Guild’s Central Council meeting in January, the landmark marketing initiative is aimed at boosting awareness and attendance at UK touring events, with an accompanying webpage giving visitors all the information needed to find their local fair.

“We are all delighted to take part in this collective project that brings the Showmen’s Guild’s family of entertainers together, in presenting their unique, thrilling and healthy brand of outdoor entertainment,” said general secretary Joe Mercer. “Since they cover the whole country already, we want to put them all on the map of public consciousness.”

“When we all emerged from the lockdowns following the pandemic, we received an enthusiastic response from the public and we want to remind them now that the active-fun and value-entertainment is once again on their doorstep, wherever they live.”

The adverts feature actors enjoying the rides and attractions of a traditional funfair, and will be broadcast during Good Morning Britain on ITV1, as well as in additional slots across ITV2 and ITV3 to reach a broader audience.

The advert also displays the address of the Showmen’s webpage which features the names and locations of the 163 fairs taking place during the Easter and Eid celebrations, compiled in collaboration with Guild members from the ten regional sections.

“It is important that the varied array of fairs, that are unique to each town, are enjoyed and protected for future generations, to enrich each community as part of our joint heritage,” added Mercer.

“This way we can continue to make our national and local contribution not only to the country’s economy, but to our nation’s unique way of life and if we can achieve that, then this considerable investment nationally in what we do, will have been worthwhile and worth repeating.”
