Llandudno Pier celebrated its 149th anniversary on 1 August, with its owners thanking the staff and customers who continue to flock to the pier for their support.
With the summer season now in full swing following a tumultuous winter of storm weather and structural damage, the attraction is now looking ahead to its sesquicentenary.
“What an achievement, and she’s still standing today,” said a spokesperson. “It would not be possible without our amazing community and guests who visit us every year.”
“But without a doubt a huge thank you to the Tir Prince and the Williams family for their continued investment. Here’s to a further 150 years.”
Commenting on the anniversary, the local Home Front Museum shared the story of pier stalwart Alice Cimatti, who joined the staff in 1927 aged 15 as a shorthand typist, eventually becoming assistant to the general manager, before retiring in 1977.
“In her time on the pier she met some of the biggest stars and politicians of the time from Paul Robeson and Richard Tauber in the 1930s, Vera Lynn and George Formby in the war years, through to Julie Andrews, Petula Clark, Hughie Green and Tommy Steele in the 1960s and ‘70s.”
